go global: use this tool to get overseas customers

UK export website great.gov.uk

If you’re a UK business interested in overseas markets, you need to check out this online trade hub.

(And if you’re not interested…well…maybe you should be?)

Recently launched by the Department for International Trade, GREAT.gov.uk is a free tool designed to help UK businesses connect with potential buyers from abroad.

The government is keen to encourage UK firms to export, and hopes the new platform will help companies tap into millions of pounds worth of overseas trade.

So what does the platform do?

find the right market place

The site can help you identify major online market places in other countries, and work out if they’re a good place to try and sell your products.

There’s often a cost to trading on these sites, but you can take advantage of special rates negotiated by the UK government with certain providers – making it cheaper to use them.

get seen by overseas buyers

If you’re all geared up and ready to go, you can also create a Find a Supplier profile.

You’ll basically be added to a list of export-ready UK businesses – designed to help overseas firms find UK suppliers.

find contract opportunities

If you’re an experienced exporter, you can look for contract opportunities.

The site lists live opportunities with buyers from Europe, Asia and beyond. Everything from providing medical equipment to consultancy services.

When we looked this morning, there were 1,029 contract opportunities.

get support and advice

You’ll also find loads of useful advice on exporting – whether you’re new to the game, or an old hand.

There’s practical advice on e-commerce, finance, logistics and regulations. Plus free webinars across a range of topics.

The site can also sign-post you to agencies able to provide specialist support in your field.
