business case study: moneypenny

Artist's impression of the new Moneypenny headquarters in Wrexham.

North Wales is a great UK business location. And home to some great UK businesses.

Take Moneypenny, for example...

Moneypenny started life as a small enterprise right here in North Wales.

In little over a decade, it's grown it into the biggest company of its kind in the world, with with offices in New Zealand and the USA.

A leading provider of outsourced call-handling, it employs over 400 people at its Wrexham HQ, and has been in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For four times.

This year it was in the top five of the mid-sized business category, receiving a three star accreditation for the third time (only given to those companies deemed `extraordinary’).

Moneypenny says Wrexham is a great business location, and recently confirmed its continuing commitment by announcing plans to build a brand new HQ. And not just any HQ.

Described as “10 acres of dreamland”, the £15 million development will include a tree-house, village pub and desks with spectacular countryside views.

It’ll also include nature trails, orchards and vegetable gardens.

Forget the Apple 'doughnut.' Forget the Amazon 'biosphere.' North Wales is where it's at ;-)

So why does this hugely successful company choose to base itself here?

Well. It's mostly about people.

'can do' attitude

Co-founder and director Rachel Clacher says: “We based ourselves in Wrexham and remain committed to the town as there is a fantastic resource of hardworking, enthusiastic and personable people on our doorstep.

“Every day they do a great job representing our business and also the thousands of client businesses we work with.”

Managing director Glenn Jackson agrees, and says being based in Wrexham allows the company to tap into a talented labour-pool.

“When you get people with a ‘can-do’ attitude, you can teach them to do anything. But you can’t teach them to have that ‘can-do’ attitude.

“At Moneypenny, we’ve managed to attract people with that fabulous attitude that allows us to grow our business.”

The company also cites good transport links and support from the local council as key benefits.

"We're just two hours away from a business meeting in London and less than an hour away from Liverpool and Manchester airports," says Glen.

So there you have it. One very successful company choosing to base itself in North Wales.
